RCoA supports NHS Paediatric critical care and surgery in children review report
NHS England and NHS Improvement have published their summary report on the Paediatric critical care and surgery in children review. The review aims to reorganise services, ensuring all children can access high quality care that meets their individual needs as close to home as possible and when they need it. With a vision to demonstrate that by working through common challenges you can build sustainable services that are fit for the future.
Collaborative working across specialties is a core value for the College, Council Member Dr Russell Perkins commented:
“The College welcomes this summary report of Paediatric critical care and surgery in children and looks forward to supporting our members working on the operational delivery networks (ODNs) to deliver the proposed service developments.
“The College has previously worked with ENT UK and the British Association for Paediatric Otolaryngology to produce Safe Delivery of Paediatric ENT Surgery in the UK: A National Strategy. We are eager to produce similar documents with other surgical specialties. These collaborations will set a framework against which ODNs can plan service delivery.
“The College believes that changes already made to our curriculum will provide suitably trained anaesthetists who are able to manage the proposed reconfigurations of surgery in children in the future.”
