PatientsVoices@RCoA is a group of diverse people who support, advise and influence the College by providing patients’ perspectives on its activities.
PatientsVoices@RCoA helps the College improve the delivery of safe, more effective, patient-centred care to enhance patients’ experience of anaesthesia and perioperative care.
PatientsVoices@RCoA members:
- ensure the voice of patients is clearly heard across all relevant activities at the College
- input and collaborate with the College's various committees and boards on their workstreams or projects. In some cases, they hold a permanent seat on the committee or board
- advise on, review and provide input into the production of the College’s patient information resources
- receive training and contribute to the clinician-led peer review visits to hospitals under the Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation scheme, to assess how the hospital experience might appear to a patient
- regularly contribute articles to the Bulletin and other College publications
- are invited to contribute to the Guidelines for the Provision of Anaesthetic Services, as well as other guidance produced by the College
- contribute to the College’s responses to consultation documents published by external professional bodies
- support the College's research projects
- provided input into College examinations and contribute to question setting in the Primary OSCE exam, with a particular emphasis on doctor/patient communication
- are invited to speak at College events and online talks to ensure the patient perspective is considered
- have received equality and diversity training, and are required to make public any declarations of interests that may relate to their role on the Committee
- also engage and support activities of the Faculty of Pain Medicine and the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine
