Primary FRCA Online Revision Course
The Primary FRCA Online Revision Course was originally designed to help candidates taking their examinations during the COVID pandemic. Due to popular demand the course will continue to run online.
This course is aimed at those studying for the February 2025 sitting of the Primary FRCA MCQ examination and will cover key areas that have proved difficult for past examination candidates.
On average this course will take 4 days to complete.
All trainees are welcome to attend.
The course will consist of:
- Video lectures broken down into bite-sized topics.
- PowerPoint presentations from all lectures covered on the course.
- SBA sessions with Dr Hammond and Dr Boumphrey.
- MCQ exams with answers and notes available on e-LA.
- Access to other material on e-LA, including reading lists.
- Access to all lectures and learning materials available up to the Primary MCQ examination in February 2025.
- Primary FRCA Revision Guide available at a reduced rate when attending this course.

Speakers
Dr Ed Hammond MRCP FRCA is a consultant anaesthetist based in Exeter with a particular interest in medical education and IT who developed the RCoA Electronic Anaesthetic Logbook and QBase series of MCQ books/software to help candidates prepare for the FRCA Exam. He has been the clinical lead for e-Learning Anaesthesia since 2007 developing it into an award winning resource for anaesthetists in training and consultant CPD.
In 2010, after a 3 year hiatus without a course to support trainees preparing for the Primary FRCA, he co-founded this new Primary FRCA revision course, incorporating lectures and exam practice and linked to e-LA, focusing on the parts of the curriculum where it was recognised that trainees often struggled with. He is also the author of the software used to mark the exams on the course and along with Steve Boumphrey will be throughout the course if candidates wish to discuss any issues or concerns they have about the course or exam.
Dr Steve Boumphrey has been a Consultant anaesthetist in Plymouth since 2005 with areas of interest including difficult airway management, thoracic anaesthesia, anaesthesia for pheochromocytoma and perioperative medicine.
He has been a College Tutor, Foundation Programme Director and is now Guardian of Safe Working. He was an editor for e-Learning Anaesthesia editing and writing exam preparation sessions and in 2010 he co-founded the new Primary FRCA Masterclass at the RCoA and along with Ed Hammond will be available throughout the course if candidates wish to discuss any issues or concerns they have about the course or exam.
