RCoA Annual General Meeting recording available
Thank you to all those who joined us at our Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place online on Thursday 9 December 2021. While we would have preferred to have held the meeting in person, having it on Zoom enabled attendances from across the country and around the world. We can also share a recording of the presentations and discussion, which you can see below.
President Dr Fiona Donald, in welcoming everyone to the meeting, outlined the progress of the College over the last two years, including the response to the pandemic, and introduced plans to invest in member services in the coming year.
Dr Donald spoke about the College’s focus on expanding the workforce in our specialties and how the College had been furthering these discussions at the highest levels. The NHS’ plans to tackle the elective surgery backlog depend on having a well-supported and trained workforce.
It is our role as a College to invest in training, education, exams, and membership to support our members at all stages of their careers. AGM attendees heard that improvements are needed in some areas, for example the Lifelong Learning Platform, and the delivery of exams, and that the College would need to continue to operate from a sound financial base in order to meet those needs.
Dr Donald spoke about the College’s new strategy and a commitment to engaging with members across the UK. Among other initiatives, this will see the College extending listening events to England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to ensure that diverse views are heard and acted upon.
A vote was held on each of two resolutions, and both were passed by the required majority.
- That the Minutes be approved for the AGM held on 3rd December 2020
[Motion Carried by 97 per cent votes in favour] - That the resolution made by the Board of Trustees on 10 February 2021 determining the rates of annual subscription for 2021–2022 from April 2022, in accordance with the provisions of Ordinance 4 be approved
[Motion Carried by 68 per cent votes in favour]
The proposed five per cent increase to membership fees for the College and the Faculty of Pain Medicine, and two per cent increase for The Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine were approved as above. A discussion and full table of fees can be seen on the video. These changes affect different membership categories differently, but can be summarised as:
- College Fellows, a rise of £25 annually
- average increase for all categories, a rise of £9
- student and foundation doctors, no increase.
