Professor William Harrop-Griffiths and Dr Russell Perkins elected as Vice-Presidents of the Royal College of Anaesthetists
The Royal College of Anaesthetists is pleased to announce that Professor William Harrop-Griffiths and Dr Russell Perkins have been elected unopposed as Vice-Presidents of the Royal College of Anaesthetists.
Both will take up office in September 2021 alongside President-elect Dr Fiona Donald.
Professor William Harrop-Griffiths will continue as Vice-President, a post he has held since September 2020.
Will has worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist at St Mary’s Hospital since 1991. He is passionate about advocating for anaesthetists in training, championing career progression and supporting College exams and examiners. He is looking forward to continuing to progress the College’s environment and sustainability and equality, diversity and inclusion policies.
Dr Russell Perkins takes up the post of Vice-President for the first time, taking over from Dr Fiona Donald. Russell has worked as a Consultant Paediatric Anaesthetist in Manchester for over 20 years, through which he is a proud advocate for children and young people’s services. He is also a co-opted member of the Council of the Association of Paediatric Anaesthetists.
Russell is committed to quality improvement and advancing the perioperative care agenda. He is Chair of the College’s Clinical Quality and Research Board and of the Anaesthesia Clinical Services Accreditation Committee. He is also a member of the College’s SAS Committee and Finance and Resources Board.
Welcoming the appointments, the outgoing President, Professor Ravi Mahajan, said:
