One million interactions on the Lifelong Learning Platform

Published: 11/12/2018

Since the August 2018 launch of the Lifelong Learning Platform, over one million interactions with the platform have taken place. This milestone is the culmination of over two years of intense testing by various stakeholders, followed by a phased roll-out of the portal.

The one million interactions on the platform have been accrued through the integrated Logbook and e-Portfolio functionality, as well as new features to support training which include:

  • the ability to send assessments to any trainer (even if they do not have an account on the platform)
  • a redesign of the multi-source feedback, that gives greater control to the user
  • support for ACCS (anaesthetics) training
  • a clean and intuitive dashboard.

Since its launch, over 250,000 anaesthetic cases have been recorded using the Logbook functionality alone and over 21,000 personal activities have been documented.

Russell Ampofo, Director of Education, Training and Examinations at the College said:

“I am delighted that in only three months we have seen such high and consistent levels of engagement with the platform. We are pleased that members are telling us that they are benefiting from the improved functionality and the new features are improving how they record and demonstrate their experience. The Lifelong Learning team will continue to listen and respond to the feedback received from members and, whilst we are pleased with the achievements so far, we know there is still much more to do. The Lifelong Learning platform is one of many exciting technology projects we are taking forward to support the careers of our members.”

Work on the platform continues – one up-coming development is to provide offline working for the Logbook which will allow members to work on their log cases without the need for internet connection. This feature will enable members to update their work experience in real time, in areas with patchy internet coverage or where there is no internet access at all. This feature is due to go live in early 2019. If you do have feedback or issues with the platform, the quickest way to get resolution is by emailing: lifelong@rcoa.ac.uk.
