Election to RCoA Council 2024: results announced
Voting for election to the Council of the Royal College of Anaesthetists closed at 12 noon on Thursday 14 December.
The College is pleased to confirm that the following candidates have been elected, with terms of office commencing in March 2024.
Consultant vacancies (in alphabetical order, three to elect):
- Dr Jon CHAMBERS, Dorset County Hospital
- Dr Sarah RAMSAY, Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, Glasgow
- Dr Paul SOUTHALL, Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust
Anaesthetist in Training vacancies (two to elect):
- Dr Sophie JACKMAN, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust
- Dr Matthew TUCK, Freeman Hospital, The Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
In addition, a further, temporary Anaesthetist in Training vacancy has arisen due to the maternity leave of one of our current Council members. The College is keen to ensure the experiences of Anaesthetists in Training continue to be fully represented at Council and have therefore co-opted the candidate who placed third in the election – Dr David Urwin – for a period of up to one year to cover that maternity leave.
The ballot process was managed by Mi-Voice. The full results can be viewed here.
Dr Fiona Donald, President of the Royal College of Anaesthetists said:
“I would like to thank all sixteen candidates who stood for these positions on our Council. Putting oneself forward for election is no small undertaking and their willingness to do so speaks to their dedication and to the strength of our specialty.
“I am especially pleased that despite the continuing pressure on health services, we have had so many candidates who are willing to volunteer their time and expertise to their College and its membership to help further our work for the patients those members look after. Thank you all for stepping forward.
"Congratulations to Jon, Sarah, Paul, Sophie, Matthew, and David. I look forward to working closely with all of you alongside your fellow Council members, other volunteers and staff to advance the work we are doing on behalf of our growing membership. I would also like to thank all members who took the time to cast their vote. The Council and its elections are pivotal to the College’s work and it is heartening to see the membership so engaged with this process.”
