Election to Council – ballot open

The College Council election ballot is now open for one consultant vacancy and one SAS vacancy.  

This ballot is being conducted electronically and all those eligible to vote should now have received an email with instructions about how to do so. Look out for an email from RCoAvote@cesvotes.com.

To ensure the process is independent and fair, the College is again working with leading ballot services provider Civica Election Services (CES) to conduct the election. 

The College encourages all eligible to vote to do so. The ballot will close at midday on 14 December.

Those who will be standing for election are listed below (in the order their applications were received). Terms of office begin in March 2020.

Consultant vacancies (one to elect)

  • Andrew Fairley Smith (Royal Lancaster Infirmary)
  • Sudhansu Kumar Pattnaik (Queen’s Hospital, Romford)
  • Ramai Santhirapala (Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust)
  • Dhushy Surendra Kumar (University Hospital, Coventry)

SAS Vacancy (one to elect)

  • Kirstin May (Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust)
  • Olivera Potparic (Chelsea & Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust)
  • Ashwini Keshkamat (Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust)

Who can vote?

Voting eligibility is set out in the RCoA’s Charter and Ordinances and is specific to the category of each vacancy.

Those eligible to vote for the Consultant vacancy are:

  • Fellows
  • Associate Fellows
  • Members
  • Associate Members
  • Trainees
  • Senior Fellows and Members

Those eligible to vote for the SAS vacancy are:

  • Members
  • Associate Members                           

There is no trainee vacancy in this election.

I have not received my email ballot. What do I do?

If you have not received an email ballot and believe you should have, please note the following:

  • please read “Who can vote?” above to ensure that you are entitled to vote
  • electronic ballots were sent by email on 16 November 2020 to the primary email address you have registered with the College
  • look for a message from RCoAvote@cesvotes.com
  • if you can’t locate the email, please check your junk mail  
  • if you still can’t locate the email, please email elections@rcoa.ac.uk and include your College reference number

I am retired and I don’t wish to vote in this election

There is no compulsion to vote in this election. Due to College regulations we do have to offer retired Fellows a ballot, but you can simply ignore the ballot email if that is your preference. If you would prefer not to receive reminders to vote, please contact elections@rcoa.ac.uk and include your College reference number.
