The College seeks authors for a new GPAS chapter on regional anaesthesia
The Royal College of Anaesthetists is currently looking for anaesthetists to contribute to a new Guidelines for the Provision of Anaesthetic Services (GPAS) chapter on regional anaesthesia for publication in 2024.
NICE Accredited GPAS chapters
All of our GPAS chapters are developed using a National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) accredited development process. Accreditation by an external and nationally recognised body such as NICE adds to the credibility of the process and allows for a wider application of our guidelines. The 2024 edition of GPAS will feature a new chapter on Regional Anaesthesia (RA) and we are seeking anaesthetists to act as authors for the chapter.
What does being an author involve?
Each GPAS chapter is written by four or five authors. The authors for the RA chapter will be responsible for assessing material within existing chapters, reviewing relevant literature, drafting recommendations to be included within the chapter, grading the literature and recommendations, and responding to all consultation feedback.
As an author you will be required to attend authors' meetings throughout the review process, however the majority of correspondence will be via email.
Authors are supported by a GPAS Editor who is responsible for ensuring the chapter framework and style guide is adhered to, and a member of College staff who coordinates the process.
The chapter will also be supported by a Chapter Development Group (CDG) consisting of subject matter experts, anaesthetists of all grades, relevant specialist societies and an RCoA Patients’ Voice representative. The CDG are responsible for providing feedback to the authors during the drafting process.
