Anaesthetics February 2023 ST4 Recruitment
The Royal College of Anaesthetists’ Recruitment Committee has worked with the Medical and Dental Recruitment and Selection (MDRS), to ensure fair recruitment for doctors in CT3 top up posts.
MDRS are part of Health Education England with representation from all four nations , including representation from BMA junior doctors and the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges and other bodies. They ensure that standards in delivery of recruitment across all specialities are equitable and fair.
The eligibility criteria for those undertaking CT3 top up posts in the UK is as follows:
Current employment in a UK anaesthetics post and achievement of all required Stage 1 Domains of Learning evidenced by a Stage 1 Certificate / Stage 1 Equivalence Certificate by intended start date, as well as signoff for expected completion of CT3 top-up training by a UK anaesthetics College Tutor at time of application.

For doctors who have undertaken CT3 top-up training overseas, achievement of all required Stage 1 Domains of Learning evidenced by a Stage 1 Certificate / Stage 1 Equivalence Certificate by time of application is needed. You are advised to liaise with your local UK Regional Adviser Anaesthesia if necessary.
The Confirmation of Stage 1 Equivalence Certificate should only be used if you have not completed a UK core training programme (on the 2010 curriculum, nor on the 2021 curriculum) but have all the required Stage 1 Domains of Learning by time of application.
