Professional life and career
Postgraduate career
Inititally house surgeon at Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester then sequentially casualty officer, house surgeon and house physician at St George’s. By 1935 he was honorary anaesthetist at St George’s and Victoria Hospital for Children, appointments which he held until retirement in 1968. From 1942 he also worked at several specialist hospitals (Brompton, Hammersmith, Maida Vale for Nervous Diseases, London Chest), but withdrew from these as he moved towards retirement although he continued in private practice thereafter.
Professional interests and activities
He published papers and chapters on a range of topics, and was a pioneer of epidural block in the management of major hepato-biliary and pancreatic surgery.
