Clinical and Research interests in muscle relaxants, profound hypothermia in cardiac surgery, measurement and monitoring in anaesthesia.

He co-authored two notable books: in 1970 (with S Feldman) ‘Scientific Foundations of Anaesthesia’; in 1987 (with S Feldman and W Paton) ‘Drugs in Anaesthesia: Mechanisms of Action’. Both ran to further editions.

Other biographical information

Married Isabel Jean Spiller in 1947 and they had four children: three had careers in medicine and one became an architect.

Keen gardener and photographer. Interested in cricket, hockey and tennis.
